What to include in each social media package

Clear limits on posts, platforms and replies stop scope creep. Anything outside the table is a quote, not a favour.

Pricing

What drives your price

Two freelancers can sell the same 20 posts at very different prices. These are the levers that move the number.

Price per deliverable
Work out your hours per post, then multiply by your rate. The market range is $40 to $150 a post, and solo freelancers usually sit at $40 to $80.
Niche
Regulated or technical niches, like healthcare, finance or B2B software, need more research and client review. Price them above a local café.
Video
Reels and TikToks take longer than static posts to script, edit and caption. Price each video above a static post, or sell video as its own line.
Platforms
Each extra platform needs resizing and rewriting. Solo freelancers usually add $200 to $500 a month per platform.
Ads
Charge a management fee and have the client pay ad spend directly to the platform. Never mix their budget into your invoice.
Community
Comment and DM replies are daily work. Weekday replies belong in Growth, weekend and daily cover in Premium.
Turnaround
Same-day posts and last-minute changes break your week. Charge 25 to 50 percent more for rush work.
Retainers over one-offs
A 3 to 6 month minimum keeps income steady and gives the content time to work. Review prices every 6 months and show the growth you delivered.
The maths

Check your margin before you send a price

Hours per tier times your rate is your floor. If a tier sells below that floor, you are paying to work.

TierPostsDesign hoursDesign cost at $50/h
Starter126 h$300
Growth2010 h$500
Premium3015 h$750

Assumes 30 minutes to design one post by hand, so a 30 post month takes about 15 hours. Track your own time for two weeks and replace the numbers.

Add the hours you spend on planning, captions, replies and reporting. Growth and Premium carry the most of that work, which is why they cost more than the post count suggests.

Design is where packages eat your time. Overvisual designs every post in each client's brand, so you review, adjust and deliver instead of building each slide by hand.

Scope

When to say no or charge more

Keep these out of the monthly fee. Quote them separately or turn the work down.

  • Ad spend. The client pays the platform directly.
  • Filming and photo shoots. Quote them per project.
  • Influencer fees and paid partnerships.
  • Unlimited revisions. Include two rounds, charge for more.
  • Work on a platform the package does not cover.
  • A client who wants Premium output at a Starter price. Offer Starter, or walk away.

Frequently asked questions

What should a social media management package include?

Most packages include a monthly content plan, a set number of designed posts, scheduling and a monthly report. Stories, comment replies and ads coordination usually move up with the tier, and ad spend is always billed separately.

How much should I charge for social media management?

Freelancers usually charge $500 to $800 a month for a Starter package, $1,000 to $1,800 for Growth and $2,000 to $3,500 for Premium. Check your own hours per tier times your rate, and never sell below that floor.

How many posts should a social media package have?

A common split is 12 posts a month for Starter, 20 for Growth and 30 for Premium. Extra posts are sold as an add-on, around $40 each.

Should social media packages include ads?

Include ads coordination in the top tier or sell it as an add-on. Charge a management fee and have the client pay ad spend directly to the platform.

Is there a social media management packages PDF example?

Yes. The free template on this page downloads as a PDF with no signup, or you can copy it to Google Docs and edit the tiers, prices and terms.

Do I need a contract for a social media package?

Yes. Put the scope, post count, platforms, revision rounds, payment terms, minimum term and notice period in writing before you start. The template covers the scope and terms, but have a local professional check the contract itself.

How do I stop scope creep with clients?

Write limits into the package: posts per month, platforms, revision rounds and reply hours. When a request falls outside them, quote it as an add-on instead of absorbing it.
